Skins - Maxxie/Michelle

Today was really warm and sunny, and I bought my ticket for the University of Nottingham summer party. The weather made me think of last summer, when Ezgi was still with us, and we used to go out into the sun with couscous, halloumi, feta, olive oil and chilli oil, and just sit in the sun and enjoy each others company. But those days are gone. I've spent today running around campus helping Nikki hand in her final essays, but she didn't appreciate the help I gave her, so I've spent my evening alone thinking about my room next year that I will finally be able to make "mine", rather than a pre-fab room. Anyway, I put all my thoughts into yesterdays post, so I will just leave my Turkish friends with a story; my favourite story from the book 365 Gece Masalı, and this story reminds me of Ezgi.

What's University of Nottingham summer party? Is that like a university wide party?

"The weather made me think of last summer, when Ezgi was still with us, and we used to go out into the sun with couscous, halloumi, feta, olive oil and chilli oil, and just sit in the sun and enjoy each others company"
---That reminds me of when I was at school and my friends and I would go out on the Parkway (road that overlooks the the Blue Ridge mtns.) and have picnics etc.. when the weather turned warm and sunny - sometimes i miss school when i think about those things

What are your ideas for your room?

Yeah, pretty much, its for the whole university where we have something like 110,000 students, so its a pretty big party, and we get some pretty decent guests. We have some quite famous UK bands this year.

And yes, nostalgia is good, but I get quite upset sometimes.

I haven't thought too hard about it, just colour schemes, and where things are gonna go... I promise before and after pictures to you now! :)

110,000 students, OMG, that's huge. I just can't imagine being somewhere with that many people

We all have to start somewhere ;)
But can I ask why you Finnish me up on a Turkish post? :)

I Finnish-ed you because other than a little German you might remember, that's the only other non-English we have in common. I looked at your Turkish story, and thought "That looks interesting..." and tilted my head to the side a little.

I could pretend to know Turkish, but that wouldn't get me very far. :]

Lol. I was just curious. :)

Its a story about a bat and a rat who live apart, and aren't ever awake at the same time, but are best friends.

Dünyanın en iyi arkadaşları biz olacağız = we will be the world's best friends.

Ok, the question now is... how do you say that? Particularly ş and ğ.

Dünyanın en iyi arkadaşları biz olacağız

All letters as in English apart from
ü - same as in German
ş - sh in shop
ı - like "ugh" with closed teeth, at back of mouth
c - like j in jelly
ğ - silent, lengthens previous vowel

and ç isn't here, but is like ch in church. :)

So

dEWnyanuhn enn eeyee arkadashlaruh biz olaca-uhz

Cool, thanks.

I was just looking through my music, and re-discovered the one Turkish song I have. It's Sor from the album Mesafe by Serdar Ortaç. Just a random statement. ^_^

i have to say your turkish very good, if you understand whole story. im able to understand only words from there and there.
I actually have one turkish book " kurbaga prens" if i wrote it right, little bit too hard for me still lol and couple of movies dubbed in turkish.

"Kurbağa Prens"? The Frog Prince?
I understand enough of the Turkish to be able to say what happens, but I am not good enough to translate it properly. I can read Turkish a lot better than I can speak or write it.

I'm trying to recover my Turkish, I used to be a lot better, but because I have been concentrating on Finnish, my Turkish has worsened.

You're right, this post made me smile. :) I like how naive the children stories are. This one is also pretty good except they forgot to say it's bat. Maybe they purposefully not included this tiny information in order to make the childern think about it.

By the way, I got a call for a job interview today. Although I won't be accepting it, it made my day and boost my self-confidence. :) So yay! Good things also happen. :P

There is a picture that goes with this story though, and Fafa and Sasa are shown to be a bat and a rat? Maybe a mouse. I'll scan it in to show you. =]

Fantastic news!! It's great to see something good happen for a change, and how nice that your confidence has risen! =] I am very happy for you!
